We are preparing for Jesus! We've had many discussions lately about Ash Wednesday and what Lent means. Yesterday was the day. Our class has given up being mean and arguing for Lent. We are being better friends to bring ourselves closer to God.
The kids are excited and we're gearing up! They had a great time making our masks and Ash Wednesday people! Updates to come!
It's Here!!!!!!!Dr. Seuss/Read Across America is kicking of at JLCCS! This is my absolute favorite time of year! There are SO many activities and I just love Dr. Seuss! We started the festivities off today with... "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish". To tie our Literature Unit into our Math, we graphed Goldfish crackers!
In an effort to spark some imagination and work on a brainstorming/pre-writing activity, I had the kids come up with their own super hero. It was slow going at first, but as the ideas started flowing, the kids really got into it. This is what they came up with. This is The Blue Smasher! He's super strong, super fast, and can fly! He has a blue suit, green cape, black mask, and is as big as the hulk. He saves people from bad guys and in his down time, he works at Sonic, lol! The kids did great with this brainstorming activity. We will develop our original story throughout the week, working towards our final draft. The first step in writing our short stories was to illustrate The Blue Smasher today. I'm really proud of how well these pictures turned out and I can't wait to see how these stories develop throughout the week. Update/The Finished productWe finished up our Shared Writing on Thursday and it was awesome! The kids came up the sequence of events for this story on their own and we revised and edited our rough draft as a class from there. These are the finished product!
Thank you to everyone who made our Valentines Party a success! The kids had a great time and their tummies were full for sure! The homemade boxes were adorable! I hope you enjoyed making them as much as the kids enjoyed filling them!
